Are my hormones really imbalanced, or is it my lifestyle?
Recently, hormones have become quite the buzzword which is so great because that means women are more invested in their health than ever!
The problem is then we then think it’s the cause of all our weight loss failures. Hormones are an easy thing to blame. The truth is, most of the time, it is more of a lifestyle issue.
Before you immediately call your doc to get lab work done or buy supplements you see on instagram that swear they’ll balance your hormones (please don’t listen to this), buy the progesterone cream, etc, it’s important to ask yourself the following question:
What does my day to day lifestyle look like?
Use this checklist to see if it’s your hormones:
- Am I getting a QUALITY 7-8 hours of sleep every night?
If not, do you have a solid bedtime routine? Are you off your phone/ off all screens about 1-2 hours prior to bed? Do you just hop into bed after running around all day and expect your brain to turn off or do you have a practice that allows your body to move into a more restful state?
- How much caffeine do I drink everyday?
Do I need it to get through the day? Do I consume 200mg or more?
- Are my meals balanced?
Am I including a protein, carbs and fat at all my meals?
- Do I eat enough calories and protein?
Am I just skipping breakfast and occasionally having 1-2 meals a day? Am I going 8+ hours without eating thru fasting? Am I eating at least .8g/lb. of bodyweight per day?
- Am I always running around full of stress and never resting?
Are you a stress addict? Can you find time throughout the day to just breathe? Are you constantly on the go, moving 1000 miles a minute?
- Do I move my body daily?
Do I have a solid gym routine/ pilates/ yoga..etc whatever you enjoy. Am I getting outside daily for some sunlight?
If you can’t truthfully say you do all of these things, before investing in other resources to “balance your hormones”, start with the BASICS!!! If you have mastered the basics and still cannot lose weight, then yes, it is could be your hormones preventing you from losing weight.
BTW, all of these basics apply if you are post menopausal and are no longer making Estrogen as well!!
Give me a “I need to work on the basics” below if you have more then 3 on this list you need to work on!
